Description

Baccalà Fritto della Vigilia is a traditional Italian fried salted cod dish, often served during Christmas Eve. Crispy on the outside and tender inside, it’s a simple yet flavorful recipe.


Ingredients

  • 500g salted cod (baccalà), soaked and desalted
  • 200g flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Soak the salted cod in water for 24-48 hours, changing the water every 6-8 hours.
  2. Pat the cod dry and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Coat each piece in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then roll in breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan to 180°C (350°F).
  5. Fry the cod pieces until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with lemon wedges.
